IMPORTANT: This standard order only applies to Form Links short code type.
Form Links short codes are used to launch open forms via typing templates and other forms. This is useful because if the form name ever changes, there will be a single place to update, rather than having to find all places that call it and individually update each of them.
Reminder to please follow the Standard Order Guidelines on top of the specific instructions outlined below.
Prerequisite: Identify the Form Path
To complete this task, you need the full path of the desired form to launch. There's two ways to find out:
- Through Maintain > Templates > Health Record Collection Templates - The path would be the folder name(s), followed by "\", followed by the form name. In the example below, it would be
"3. Referral Resources\3a. Community\Indigenous Health Outreach Program Referral".
- By searching for the form under a client's New Encounter > Form Search - The path could be found in the hover text of the search result
Fulfillment Instructions
Add Form Link
A new one may be needed to be integrated with Typing Template macro changes, which is also a Standard Order. If this is connected to adding a new form to the system, it would be best for the new short code to be deployed the same time as the form (in the same CC/sysconfig).
- Sign into EMR DEV using an account with a Sys Admin or Support Analyst role

Identify the form path and take note of it
- Go to Maintain > Short Codes > Form Links
- Click on the Add new short code icon
- Enter in the Code and Description. The Code should be what is used in the Typing Template or Form macro code to identify which form to launch, and the Description should be the full path of the form, the one noted from step 1.
- Click OK to save.
- Do a quick test to ensure the form launches correctly, where the Short Code is used.
- If all is good, proceed to do the same change into Profile EMR Production
- Using the generic ADMIN user account, add the changes done above to EMR VTM. This is so both Training and Self-Training environments will get this update on next refresh.
Update Form Links
Updating Form Links descriptions of an existing short code are considering Standard Orders. Do NOT change the Code as this will cause macros in forms and typing templates to break. If the Code needs to be updated, this is no longer a Standard Order and must go the full CC route.
- Sign into EMR DEV using an account with a Sys Admin or Support Analyst role

- Go to Maintain > Short Codes > Form Links
- Double-click the Code/Description to update
- Update the Description field based on what was noted from step 1.
- Click OK to save.
- Do a quick test to ensure the form launches correctly, where the Short Code is used.
- If all is good, proceed to do the same change into Profile EMR Production
- Using the generic ADMIN user account, add the changes done above to EMR VTM. This is so both Training and Self-Training environments will get this update on next refresh
